Bridging Language and Media

Welcome to AVI Builds.

My name is Jorge Monzón, and for over 30 years, I have dedicated my career to a single mission: empowering multiethnic communities through professional language access and high-impact visual storytelling.

As a Lead Trainer Medical Interpreter and an AVI Producer/Director, I occupy a unique space where linguistics meets media production. Whether you are seeking world-class interpretive services, professional bilingual AVI (Audio-Visual Integration), or curriculum development for medical staff, my work is built on a foundation of cultural competence and technical excellence.

My Journey – From the Fields of Sacramento to Global Impact

My journey began in the heart of the California Central Valley. As a Spanish native speaker, I saw firsthand the barriers created by language gaps while working with farmworker families in Sacramento. This early experience ignited a passion for advocacy that has spanned three decades.

While studying Agricultural Technology and Communications at UC Davis, I realized that the future of advocacy lay in the intersection of specialized knowledge and clear communication. I began translating and interpreting safety training manuals for agricultural and medical programs—technical work that required not just bilingual skills, but deep subject matter expertise.

This path led me to serve as a Production Director for Sacramento’s Community Cable TV stations for 15 years, eventually evolving into my current role at AVI Productions. Today, I specialize in creating training programs that bridge the gap for multiethnic populations in medical, mental health, and workers' compensation fields.

Professional Interpretive Services & Training

Expert Medical Interpretation

In the medical field, accuracy isn't just a goal—it’s a necessity. I have had the privilege of interpreting in some of the most demanding medical settings in California, including:

  • UCD Medical Center

  • Kaiser Permanente

  • Dignity Health Hospitals

  • Numerous local clinics serving multi-language patients.

Mentorship and Curriculum Development

Beyond active interpretation, I am committed to building the next generation of professionals. As a Lead Trainer with the National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA), I mentor youth in STEM and health fields. I teach pre-medical and medical students the practical nuances of Medical Interpretation, ensuring that the future of healthcare is as inclusive as it is advanced.

Bilingual AVI and Multimedia Production

Why "Bilingual AVI" Matters

In a globalized world, your message needs to do more than just translate; it needs to resonate. My work as an AVI Producer/Director focuses on Bilingual AVI—the seamless integration of high-quality audio-visual content tailored for specific cultural contexts.

Strategic Communication Successes:
  • Multilingual Training Kits: Produced a series of 12 multimedia kits and interactive training CDs in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, Hmong, and Tagalog. These resources address critical needs in mental health and learning disabilities.

  • Cultural Competence Goals: Developed DVDs and brochures for the Cultural Competence Proposition 63 goals, specifically addressing the mental health needs of African American, Asian, Native American, and Latino communities.

Educational Innovation: Produced a video series for the Sacramento County School District promoting the E-21 Initiative for schools of Health Professions, Engineering, and Sciences.

Leadership in Modern Health Challenges

The landscape of communication is constantly evolving. Since April 2020, I have collaborated with Dr. Diaz and a team of medical students to develop the COVID-19 Telehealth Language Interpretation Project. This initiative ensures that language is never a barrier to life-saving information.

Furthermore, since 2019, I have focused on producing educational bilingual videos to assist parents in understanding neurodevelopmental disabilities. Through the LUNAS Autism Project, we create resources for families navigating Autism, Fragile X, and Down Syndrome, ensuring they have the tools to help their children thrive.
